Using Self-Expression to Help Others

By Rashida A. Marshall

Finding ways to express yourself through movement can be a beautiful feeling. It can also be especially liberating when you are able to help others improve their lives at the same time. Leaira SouLight, the owner SouLight Dance Yoga is doing just that. After discovering her love for yoga and fitness, she made the decision to combine that with her passion for dance and created SouLight Dance Yoga, a holistic lifestyle brand which encompasses dance, yoga, fitness and meditation.

Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, Leaira has been involved in the performing arts since the age of 10 and always knew that it was a passion she wanted to pursue in life. After crossing paths with a master yoga guru who helped to change the course of her life, she began to develop a clearer picture of where she wanted to take her life and her entrepreneurial vision. “My yoga teacher was very much into health and holistic wellness, and I knew that there was a reason he had entered my life at that time. Around the same time, I was looking to embark on a new holistic lifestyle and change my way of living,” shared Leaira.

After taking a meditation and yoga class one day, Leaira knew that she wanted to find a way to piece it together along with what she currently did. “So I decided to become certified and that’s how everything came together,” shares Leaira “When I started my business, I made it a point to be doing something that I truly loved. SouLight Dance Yoga really stands behind being authentic and true, and I wanted to help others tap into that–their authenticity and

being able to live their best life.”

Since starting her business three years ago, Leaira has been able to witness the benefits which her services and passion for self-expression have provided to others. “When I first started this journey I came across a young lady who was being abused and dealing with drama, sexual abuse and sex trafficking,” shares Leaira. “I’ll never forget it because she was my very first client and she never let me forget the impact and influence that I made in her life.” It’s this type of feedback that has let her know that she is moving in the right direction. “I like to make sure that my clients are vocally expressive and really use what I’m giving them to make up their own minds,” Leaira says. “Being able to witness this growth and transformation within them is beautiful and reminds me that my work is not in vain.”
