Entering into a new a place in one’s life tends to bring about a new wave of emotions, thoughts and ideas which lead us to developing a better understanding of where we are meant to be going. Representing one half of the neo-soul musical duo Lotus Love, Luna Love provides us with an inside look of her musical journey up to this point and let us in on what is motivating her now to walk in her purpose.
At a young age, while living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, music was always a pivotal part of Luna and Jew’El’s (twin sister) lives. “Our grandmother had a piano and an organ, and was the District Music Supervisor of the church we grew up in,” Luna shares. “Our mother was into arts and theater, and our father went to Julliard for theater so the arts were always around us.” After moving from Milwaukee to Atlanta, Georgia, there was a cultural shift that happened and exposed the two to more culture, metaphysical concepts and non-traditional ways of thinking.
These experiences allowed for the formation of Lotus Love to become a natural progression. The two had been singing in church and community choirs after moving to Atlanta, and used this training as the foundation of their performance career. During their early high school years, there was one choir in particular that really familiarized the sisters with their vocal potential, which eventually led to them performing at open mic nights during its height in the mid to late 90’s.
